Peganum harmala (Syrian Rue) is a plant that grows in parts of the United States, Asia, Africa, and Europe. The seeds of the plant can cause hallucinations and have stimulant effects when taken by mouth. Despite some serious safety concerns, people use Syrian rue for osteoarthritis, terminating a pregnancy, cancer, menstrual pain, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
